SKT, KT Launch Commercial WiBro Service in Korea

Korean operators SKT and KT announced on June 30 that they have launched commercial WiBro (Wireless Broadband) services in Korea, supported by Samsung's technology. The services enable seamless broadband connection at speeds of 1 to 3Mbps, even in vehicles moving at speeds of up to 120km/h. SKT stated that it will kick off the service in six areas in Seoul including several university areas and that it has planned to invest 800 billion Won in WiBro service by 2011. Meanwhile, KT announced that it will initially launch the service in several urban and suburban areas in Seoul. KT expects to expand WiBro service coverage to all areas in Seoul and surrounding cities by the beginning of 2007.
